Focused on Your Development
Faculty-Artists at the University of Missouri, St. Louis since 2000, the Arianna Quartet is dedicated to the musical development of our students. The size of our program allows for ample personalized instruction and a dynamic, supportive community. Private lessons, chamber music, orchestra and studio classes are available to all violinists, violists, and cellists at the university. The varied teaching styles of each member of the quartet allows for an expansive approach to the string program as every student works with each member of the quartet in some way.
Unique Learning Opportunities
String students participate in a weekly String Musicianship Class, held by all four members of the quartet. This unique class offers opportunities for string orchestra rehearsals, solo and chamber music performances, and discussions of all facets of string playing. We also offer an outreach class, a favorite among the students. Guided by Kurt Baldwin, this class helps students develop the skills of effective and comfortable public speaking.
World-Class Performance Spaces
The stunning Touhill Performing Arts Center presents all of the UMSL orchestra, chamber music, and recital performances. The jewel of the campus, this fifty-two million dollar center, opened in 2003, houses two of the finest performance halls in the Midwest. The music department sponsors an annual concerto competition in November, the winner of which performs at the Touhill PAC in the spring with the UM-St. Louis Orchestra.
Degree Options to Meet Your Goals
The University of Missouri - St. Louis offers degree programs in performance, music education and music business with scholarships available. UMSL Music also offers scholarship assistance to non-music majors who are interested in continuing with private instruction and participation in orchestra.
