The Arianna String Quartet kicks off their 18th concert season in St. Louis with an unforgettable program featuring three of the most high-octane works in the string quartet repertoire. The ASQ opens with Franz Schubert’s scintillating single movement masterpiece, “Quartettsatz”, followed by Leoš Janáček’s impassioned Quartet No.2, “Intimate Letters”. The ASQ closes the evening with Ludwig van Beethoven’s second Razumovsky Quartet, Op.59, No.2, a tour de force that promises to shake the timbers of the Touhill!

In an evening dedicated to irrepressible rhythms and poetry in sound, the Arianna Quartet presents Franz Joseph Haydn’s Quartet in F Major, Op.74, No.2, and Robert Schumann’s magnificent Quartet in A Major, Op.41, No.3. Highlighting the evening is a performance of Cuban composer Leo Brouwer’s Quartet No.3, a riveting work featuring Afro-Cuban lyricism, dance and percussive rhythms.

The ASQ welcomes internationally acclaimed pianist Tian Ying to the Touhill for a collaborative evening with a distinctly Hungarian flavor! Known for his imaginative style and sound, Mr. Ying opens the evening with Chopin’s Nocturne in C minor, Op.48 and Franz Liszt’s alluring Concert Paraphrase, based on last act of Giuseppe Verdi’s iconic opera, Rigoletto. The Arianna Quartet follows with a performance of Bela Bartok’s Quartet No.2, and then joins forces with Mr. Ying in a performance of Johannes Brahms’ resplendent Piano Quintet in F minor, Op.34.

The Arianna Quartet welcomes world-renowned oboe virtuoso Alex Klein, principle oboist of the Chicago Symphony, back to St. Louis for an evening of unparalleled artistry and aesthetic beauty, featuring the eclectic sounds of Toru Takemitsu’s quintet “Entre-Temps” and Anton Reicha’s elegant Oboe Quintet in F Major, Op.107. The ASQ rounds out the evening with a performance of Maurice Ravel’s radiant Quartet in F Major, a work known for its exotic sounds and kaleidoscopic colors. This promises to be a top concert event in St. Louis in 2018!

The ASQ closes out the 2017-18 season with an evening dedicated to the music and splendor of Dmitri Shostakovich. From the innocent clarity of Quartet No.1, through the tortured angst of Quartet No.8, to the introspection of his Quartet No.15, the Arianna Quartet will take the audience on a soulful journey into the spirit and mind of the great Russian composer, glimpsing the power and passion that is Shostakovich.
